Surrounding
Area
The
province of Almeria offers a wide variety of things to see and do. Many
of the villages around Mojacar hold weekly markets - these are always
worth a visit. Many of them offer a wide range of fresh local produce
as well as the more tourist type goods like local pottery and a wide
variety of handicrafts. There are many inhabited cave villages, and
there are prehistoric caves at Sorbas, as well as Roman and Moorish
remains.

Granada
and the Alhambra are about a three hour drive away. If you plan
of doing this trip it’s well worth making the effort to get to the
Alhambra early – it gets very busy. Mini Hollywood (where films
like 'Fistful of Dollars' were made) is an hours’ drive away. There
are stunning views on the drive from Mojacar to Carboneras and onto
the majestic coastline of Cabo de Gata with its hidden, secluded
beaches and coves.
Garrucha and Carboneras are both lively fishing ports selling freshly
caught fish. |

A
new waterpark can be found a 20-minute drive away, just beyond
Garrucha towards Vera. Nijar, about a 30-minute drive, is my own
personal favourite, a great place to shop for local pottery, beautiful
mats, jewellery and handicrafts.

If
golf is your thing, Mojacar is a 5 minute drive from the new luxury
golf complex of Marina del Torre. There are 3 other golf courses within
easy driving distance of Mojacar.
