On the 26th of March 2006 a Smoking Law in Public Places was passed in Scotland A Smoking Ban in Public Places will be Smoking law in Wales on the 2nd of April 2007, in Northern Ireland on the 30th of April 2007 and on the 1st of July 2007 The Smoking Ban will extend to England and Smoking Law Signs will have to be displayed and smoking shelters and smoking external bins and smoking ashtrays provided.

INFORMATION

As of the 2nd of July 2007, smoking in public places will be against the law. Double Image provide a full range of no smoking law signs that will help enforce the smoking ban. These smoking ban signs are intended to be displayed as smoking window stickers signs, no smoking symbol signs in vehicles. As no smoking information signs informing the public of the person who is incharge of enforcing the smoking ban and therefore there name can be written or printed onto the smoking ban information signs. To help you also comply with the Disbailityt Discrimination Act we can supply braille no smoking signs. For a more prestigous look we are also able to supply no smoking signs in brushed aluminium and gold effect plastic. For your desktop we can supply a range of desk top nno smoking signs. To identitfy the building is a no smoking building we can supply no smoking ceiling mounted signs that can be seen from any direction. We also supply designated smoking area signs to help indentify the designated smoking areas with otherwise the smoke free building. We also supply a full range of smoking shelters and smoking shelter directional signs as well outdoor ash trays. We also supply ashtrays and ash bins and cigarettes only signs.

New workplace smoking bans will be implemented in 2007.

Scotland implemented a ban on smoking in the workplace on 26th March 2006. The rest of the UK will do the same during 2007 this will mean that smoking will no longer be permitted in enclosed public spaces in Wales from 2nd April 2007, Northern Ireland from 30th April 2007 and England from 1st July 2007.The Health Act 2006 lays down three duties, requiring:

  • Smoke free premises to display a no smoking sign;
  • Any person in control of the management of smoke-free premises "to cause a person smoking there to stop smoking"; and All persons not to smoke on smoke-free premises.

The new regulations will apply to enclosed ‘premises’, which are those, that have a ceiling or roof and, except for doors; windows or passageways are wholly enclosed whether on a permanent or temporary basis.  Substantially enclosed premises are those that have a ceiling or roof, but there are openings in the walls that are less than half of the total area of the walls.  The regulations will also apply to vehicles, when the vehicle is used by one or more person (even if they do not work there at the same time). Also grounds of hospitals and schools.

No smoking signs will need to be placed at all public entrances to no smoking premises so that employees, visitors and customers are aware of the ban.
